INGREDIENTS
SWEET CHILI SAUCE
Thai Sweet Chili Sauce – The sweet chili sauce is the perfect mix of savory, sweet, and spicy taste. You can use this for many different dishes to elevate the flavor.
Honey – The use of honey adds additional sweetness to the flavor.
Sriracha Sauce – This has become a popular spicy sauce worldwide. You should easily find this in most local grocery stores these days.
Rice Vinegar – This is a common vinegar that we use in Asian cooking. If you can’t find it, you can use White Vinegar.
Lemon Juice – Be sure to use freshly squeezed lemon juice. This helps balance out the flavor.
OTHER INGREDIENTS
Chicken thighs – I love the juicy chicken thighs for this recipe. You can also use chicken leg meat or breast. I still recommend using the thighs.
Salt & Black Pepper – The classic combo of seasonings that just make everything tastes better!
Garlic – This adds a great garlicky flavor to the chicken.
Cornstarch – We use this to coat the chicken. Cornstarch is widely used in Asian cooking. It is also called corn flour.
Vegetable Oil – I love using this for frying. I normally use Rapeseed Oil. Do not use Olive Oil.
Green Onions – or called Spring Onions. I like to use this for garnishing at the end. It adds beautiful green color and it is rich in healthy nutrients.
HOW TO MAKE THIS SWEET CHILI CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN
Make the Sweet Chili Sauce – In a bowl, combine Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, Honey, Rice Vinegar, Sriracha Sauce, and Lemon Juice together. Set aside.
Season the Chicken – In a large mixing bowl, season the Chicken with Salt, minced Garlic, and Black Pepper. Then add the Cornstarch. Toss well until evenly coated.
Fry the Chicken – In a wok or frying pan, add in enough Vegetable Oil, on high heat. Fry the Chicken in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 6 to 7 minutes. Remove and drain on a wire rack or on paper towel.
Assemble the dish – Transfer the fried Chicken to a large mixing bowl. Pour the Sweet Chili Sauce over. Gently toss to mix.
Ready to serve – Transfer to a serving plate or bowl. Garnish with Green Onions on top. Ready to enjoy!
HAINI’S TIPS
1. When frying the Chicken, do not overcrowd the pan, fry them in batches. 2. I highly recommend to use Chicken Thighs or Leg Meat for a juicy satisfaction. 3. If you don’t have Rice Vinegar, you can substitute with White Vinegar. 4. You can heat up the Chicken again in microwave if it gets cooled down. You will get a different experience.
If you’re looking for a flavorful, satisfying dish that’s both easy to prepare and sure to impress, this Sweet Chili Crispy Fried Chicken is a must-try. With its crispy coating, juicy center, and irresistible sweet-and-spicy glaze, it’s a recipe that’s bound to become a favorite at your table. I hope you will give it a try!
