3Green Onions (separate the white parts and the green parts)
2Garlic Cloves, minced
1tspSalt
1tbspLight Soy Sauce
1tspOyster Sauce
Some fresh water
1/2tspDark Soy Sauce
1/2tspSugar
3tbspCornstarch Slurry - 1 tbsp Cornstarch with 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
Instructions
Cut the Tofu in 1.5 cm (1 inch) rectangular sizes, mince the Garlic, and cut the Green Onions in two different sizes.
Heat the Oil in a frying pan or wok to medium-high, be sure to add 1/2 tsp of Salt, and fry the Tofu for about 5 minutes on one size.
Flip the Tofu over, be sure to add another 1/2 tsp of Salt, and fry another 5 minutes.
Remove the Tofu from the wok and set aside.
Reheat the wok to high, add 2 tbsp of Oil. Add minced Garlic, Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Dark Soy Sauce, Sugar, and some fresh water, cook for about 10 seconds. Add the Tofu and mix well.
Add the Onions (reserving the green pieces for garnish) and Cornstarch Slurry into the Tofu mixture. Cook for 1 minute until coated well. Before serving, add the Green Onions for garnish.
Notes
Always remember to add a little salt on both sides when you are frying the Tofu (as highlighted in the recipe)! This is essential to the taste of the Tofu. Otherwise, you might find them a bit plain even though you have added other sauces.
If you like it spicy like I do, add a teaspoon of Red Pepper Flakes or a dash of Cumin Powder.
Use Firm Tofu for this recipe. Do not use Silken Tofu.
