Who doesn’t like a classic Tiramisu? This Easy Eggless Tiramisu recipe is simple and quick. It takes “no time” to make and yet, it tastes absolutely amazing!
What is Tiramisu?
Tiramisu is a coffee-flavored Italian dessert. The classic Tiramisu is made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee and alcohol, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and Mascarpone cheese, flavored with cocoa. The recipe has been adapted into many varieties of cakes and other desserts.
Eggs
In most traditional Tiramisu recipes, you will find Egg Yolks used in the filling as it can give the filling a decadent taste, and thick texture. To avoid using raw eggs, it’s always recommended to cook the egg yolks. Egg Whites also play an essential role in the filling. Many also use Heavy Cream. Both egg whites and heavy cream need to be whipped in order to create a light filling, then folded into egg yolks and Mascarpone mixture. Most recipes use the combination of these two.
For the simplicity of making Tiramisu dessert, many people call for an Eggless Tiramisu recipe. This is what my recipe is today. Instead of using Eggs, I am using heavy cream.
Types of Alcohol in Tiramisu
One thing quite special about Tiramisu is the taste of alcohol. Types vary but the popular ones are Rum and Marsala. Marsala is a sweet red wine. Many people also use Brandy, Coffee Liqueur, or Almond Liqueur.
But in this recipe, I am going to make a Tiramisu that is alcohol-free. Yet, I still want it to taste like authentic Tiramisu. Instead of using real Rum, I am using Aroma Rum (or called fragrance or flavor of Rum). See the picture below.
In this way, Tiramisu contains no alcohol and you still get a nice, soft Rum taste. It also saves you money from buying an expensive bottle of Rum.
Mascarpone or Cream Cheese?
For a classic Tiramisu, the recipe always requires Mascarpone cheese for the filling. Of course, if you cannot find Mascarpone cheese in your area, you can substitute it with Cream Cheese. But Mascarpone is always my first choice!
How to make the Coffee Syrup?
Coffee syrup is very important for dipping the Lady Fingers in. It’s very easy to make! You can either use strong Espresso or Instant Coffee. For this Coffee Syrup, you will need 2 Tbsp Instant Coffee with 350 ml / 1.5 cups Hot water along with 1 Tbsp Sugar and 2 Tsp Aroma Rum. Then let it cool and set aside.
Some grated Dark Chocolate for the topping
For this recipe, I also use some grated Dark Chocolate in between the filling and on top of the filling. The dark chocolate combines with the flavors of coffee and cocoa to give Tiramisu a much richer taste. If you like the combination of coffee and chocolate, this dessert is definitely for you!
Here are the Ingredients:
Here is the Recipe:
Easy Eggless Tiramisu
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Instant Coffee
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 2 tsp Aroma Rum
- 16 Lady Fingers
- 220 ml / 1 cup Heavy Cream (cold)
- 100 g / 4 oz Sugar
- 250 g / 9 oz Mascarpone Cheese
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
- Some Grated Dark Chocolate
Instructions
- Make the Coffee Syrup by combining Instant Coffee, Sugar, hot Water, and Aroma Rum in a bowl. Set aside and let it cool.
- Prepare the filling. Use an electric hand mixer to whip Heavy Cream and Sugar together until it forms soft peaks.
- Add the Mascarpone Cheese into the cream mixture. Mix well. Then add the Vanilla Extract. Mix well again.
- Dip the Lady Fingers into the Coffee Syrup and place them so that they cover the bottom of the dessert plate. Then add the Mascarpone mixture, and some grated Dark Chocolate.
- Repeat the same procedure for the second layer. Before adding the grated Dark Chocolate, you should dust the top generously with some Cocoa Powder. Refrigerate 4-6 hours. It's even better if left in the fridge overnight before serving!
Notes
- For the last part, after refrigeration, and right before serving, you can dust with Cocoa Powder and some grated Dark Chocolate. Either way can work!
- For this recipe, I use two 13cm x 13cm x 5cm dessert plates.
