WHY SHRIMP AND BROCCOLI ARE THE PERFECT PAIR

Shrimp and broccoli are a classic combination in Chinese cooking for good reason. The tender, naturally sweet shrimp perfectly balances the fresh, slightly crisp texture of broccoli. Together they create a healthy meal that is rich in flavor without feeling heavy.

I always recommend using large or extra-large shrimp for this recipe because they stay juicy and give every bite a satisfying texture. If possible, buy shrimp with the shells on and peel them just before cooking for the freshest flavor.

THE SECRET IS THE GARLIC SAUCE

The star of this recipe is the simple garlic sauce. Fresh garlic adds an incredible aroma that pairs beautifully with shrimp, while soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a touch of cornstarch create a silky sauce that lightly coats every ingredient.

Cornstarch is a common ingredient in Chinese cooking because it helps create that glossy restaurant-style sauce without making it too heavy. It brings everything together while allowing the natural sweetness of the shrimp and freshness of the broccoli to shine.

If you love garlic as much as I do, don’t be afraid to use a few extra cloves. The garlic becomes wonderfully fragrant as it cooks and gives the entire dish its signature flavor.

HAINI’S TIPS

1. Don’t overcook the broccoli or the shrimp. Blanch the broccoli just until it turns bright green and stays crisp, as it will continue cooking with the shrimp. The same goes for the shrimp—cook only until they turn pink and tender to keep them juicy and flavorful.
2. Use fresh garlic whenever possible. Fresh garlic gives the sauce its rich aroma and delicious flavor, making a big difference compared to garlic powder.
3. Cook until the sauce lightly coats the shrimp and broccoli. Once most of the liquid has reduced and the glossy garlic sauce clings beautifully to every piece, your dish is ready to serve.
4. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles for a simple, healthy, and satisfying homemade meal.

This Healthy Sautéed Shrimp and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce is one of those recipes that you’ll want to make again and again. It is quick, wholesome, and full of fresh flavors that never get old. Whether you’re cooking for your family, meal prepping for the week, or simply looking for a healthy homemade dinner, this easy Chinese shrimp and broccoli recipe is always a delicious choice. I hope it becomes one of your favorites too. Happy cooking!
