Bang Bang Sauce
Bang Bang Sauce is a mix of different Asian sauces, which create a wonderfully creamy, sweet, and spicy tang! The sauces I’ve used here are Japanese Kewpie Mayonnaise, Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, Sriracha, and Honey. The combination of these sauces creates magic! You should easily find these sauces in your local Asian grocery stores. However, if you cannot find the Japanese Kewpie Mayonnaise, you can substitute with the regular mayonnaise.
You can adjust the amount of Sriracha depending on how spicy you want your sauce to be. The addition of Honey adds a nice sweet taste to it.
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THE BANG BANG SAUCE
Japanese Kewpie Mayonnaise – Kewpie has both the tangy-sweetnessย and the savory undertone that is absent in regular mayonnaise. It is packed with amazing egg umami flavor. You will have to taste it to find out. ย
Thai Sweet Chili Sauce – The sweet chili sauce is the perfect mix of savory, sweet, and spicy taste. You can use this for many different dishes to elevate the flavor.
Sriracha Sauce – This has become a popular spicy sauce worldwide. You should easily find this in most local grocery stores these days.
Honey – The use of honey adds additional sweetness to the flavor.
OTHER INGREDIENTS
Prawnsย โ Always use large prawns for satisfying bites. The shrimp should be peeled and deveined. I like to leave the tail shell on for a nice shape.
Salt & White Pepper – The classic combo of seasonings – simple and flavorful.
Buttermilk – If you do not have it, you can make it at home with Whole Milk and Lemon Juice. See my instruction below.
Vegetable Oil – I like to use Rapeseed Oil. You can use Sunflower Oil too. Do not use Olive OIl.
Cornstarch – It is also called Cornflour. This is commonly used in Chinese cooking.
Green Onionsย โ or called Spring Onions. I like to use this for garnishing at the end. It adds beautiful green color and it is rich in healthy nutrients.
