This recipe for Shrimp and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce (蒜蓉西兰花炒虾) is not only healthy–it is so easy to make! It only requires a few simple steps with a few ingredients. And you can make a healthy and delicious meal for your friends, loved ones, or yourself.
SHRIMP
I love large Shrimp. A mouth-watering taste of Shrimp is one of my favorite tastes. You should always use large or extra-large size Shrimp for this recipe. This recipe is for 2 servings with 10 large Shrimp. It is always better to buy the Shrimp with the shell on, but remember to remove the shell before you start cooking! BROCCOLI
Broccoli is a very healthy vegetable. It is low in calories and rich in minerals, fiber, and vitamins like C, B, and K. And it is great for cooking! You should always select the greenish Broccoli possible.
GARLIC
Another healthy key ingredient in this recipe is Garlic. Garlic has proven to have many healthy benefits such as lowering cholesterol level, easing common cold, reducing hypertension, and boosting heart health, etc. In this recipe, I am using 6 large Garlic Cloves. The Shrimp and Garlic just taste so good together! Of course, if you like less Garlic taste, you should use only 3 cloves.
CORNSTARCH
Cornstarch is the key to Chinese cooking. You will find Cornstarch being used in many Chinese dishes, which is an important Chinese cooking technique. In this recipe, Cornstarch plays an essential role in making the Garlic Sauce.

Ingredients
- 10 Large or Extra-Large Shrimp
- 400 g / 14 oz Broccoli (cut in pieces)
- 6 Garlic Cloves, minced (Half for the Sauce, Half for cooking the Shrimp)
- 3 Green Onions (White+Light Green Parts, Sliced)
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Ground Black Pepper
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Water (125 ml)
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
- 3 tsp Vegetable Oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix Shrimp, Salt, and Ground Black Pepper together. Set aside.
- Prepare the Garlic Sauce. In another bowl or a measuring cup, mix well half of the Garlic, Green Onions, Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil, and Cornstarch.
- In a wok, bring the water to a high boil, add the Broccoli, and boil for 2-3 minutes. Remove Broccoli and set aside.
- Clean the wok, add the Vegetable oil, at a medium heat, add the rest of the Garlic, stir for a few seconds, then add the Shrimp, and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the Shrimp turn pink and curve.
- Turn the heat to high, add the Broccoli and mix gently with the Shrimp. Then add the Garlic Sauce, coat thoroughly for about 2 minutes. Ready to serve!
Notes
- Do not over boil the Broccoli for the first step. It needs to stay crunchy and it will be cooked again with the Shrimp.
- The same goes for the Shrimp. Do not overcook the Shrimp or it will lose its best texture and taste.
- Cook until you can see no water. The Shrimp and Broccoli are covered with the Sauce and kind of stick together. It’s time to eat!
Personally speaking, I love the combination of shrimp and broccoli which is healthy and rich in nutrition.
