This Sweet, Spicy, and Crispy Korean Tofu is one of my favorite Tofu recipes. The sweet and spicy flavors are addicting and beyond satisfying. I love my Tofu to be lightly crispy outside and still taste soft inside – the perfect texture. Once started, you can’t stop eating. Each bite is inviting. This Korean Tofu is perfect as a side dish or a delightful meal for dinner. Either way, your family will make them disappear quickly—and then ask for more.

The recipe is quick and easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. If you are a fan of Tofu, this is must-try! For a Chinese style Tofu, you can check out my Easy Fried Tofu with Green Onions and The Devil’s Mapo Tofu recipes.

TOFU

As Tofu needs to be fried in oil, I highly recommend that you use the less fragile Firm or Extra Firm Tofu. I’ve tried both kinds and they are perfect for frying. To reach a nice crispy texture, I use the double-fry method, which I also like to use in my fried chicken recipes (e.g. Honey-Buttered Korean Fried Chicken with Almonds).

THE SWEET AND SPICY SAUCE

The Sweet and Spicy Sauce is made of Ketchup, Light Syrup, Gochujang, and a little amount of Vegetable Oil. You can substitute the Light Syrup with Rice Syrup or 3 tablespoons of Brown Sugar.

HOW TO MAKE THIS KOREAN SWEET & SPICY CRISPY TOFU

1. Prepare the Tofu – Use a Kitchen Towel to press and dry the Tofu. Cut the Tofu in small pieces. Put them on a Kitchen Towel to get rid of extra liquid. In a small bowl, add the Cornstarch. Coat the Tofu one piece at a time. Shake off extra starch. Set aside.
2. First-fry the Tofu – In a frying pan, add the Vegetable Oil, on medium-high heat. Add in the Tofu pieces one at a time making sure to keep them separated so that they don’t stick together. Fry the Tofu on both sides for 3-4 minutes until lightly golden brown. Drain and remove.
3. Second-fry the Tofu – Do a Second Fry of the Tofu for another 2-3 minutes on medium-high heat until golden brown. Drain and set aside.
4. Cook the Sauce – In another frying pan, add in 1 tsp Vegetable Oil, Ketchup, Light Syrup, and Gochujang, on medium-high heat. Stir well until the sauce starts to boil.
5. Assemble the dish – Add in the fried Tofu. Coat well with the sauce. The sauce will thicken up and get sticky.
6. Ready to serve – Garnish with chopped Green Onions and Sesame Seeds. Ready to serve!
