Yummy Steak Pizza Light

Steak on pizza? It just sounds fabulous to me. If you love steak and you also love pizza, this Yummy Steak Pizza Light recipe is perfect for you. I know, I know. Eating a big steak these days can fill us with guilt that eating too much beef is not good for us or the planet. With that in mind, I follow a “steak light” approach and incorporate that principle in my recipe!

I am a big fan of pizza and I make a different pizza recipe every week, often for a fast dinner on Friday night! Crispy sourdough crusts are my favorite and I always have homemade sourdough starter in my fridge. I do not buy processed grocery store pizzas anymore. The homemade ones with the rustic look and the crispy sourdough crust with a wide variety of toppings is great! My steak pizza is tender and the sauce, spinach, and cheeses partner well with the beefy flavor. Pick a sauce that matches your personal taste buds: spicy, sweet, tangy, peppery—you name it!

SOURDOUGH CRUST

For the Sourdough Pizza Crust recipe, please check out my Marvelous Margherita Sourdough Pizza recipe which has clear instructions. From my sourdough starter, I made the dough one day ahead and refrigerated it overnight. You can make it up to three days ahead as well so that it is ready when you are, and in case you can’t wait until Friday!

HOMEMADE MARINARA SAUCE

Marinara Sauce is so easy to put together! For a fusion spark, I use Sichuan Peppercorns, one of my dependable “go to” spices. For this sauce, you will need canned Italian Pomodoro Tomatoes, Tomato Paste, Olive Oil, Oregano (Dry or Fresh), Fresh Basil, Garlic, Salt, and Ground Black Pepper. Mix all the ingredients together and refrigerate before use.

I love the look and taste of this remarkably crisp crust! It is especially wonderful comfort food in cool and cold weather served at the table or in front of the TV on a cozy setting. The Marinara and steak sauce, the cheeses, lovely spinach, and tender steak provide a rich and wonderful taste! Every bite is so rewarding! While I’m not a big steak person, I adore this steak-light pizza. Enjoy it with a nice glass or two of red wine to bring out the full flavor of the steak. Enjoy!

Ingredienser

  • 1 Sourdough pizza dough, approximately 10 inches round
  • 1 fresh piece of Steak (125 g) (or size according to wishes, but ½-1 inch thick. Rib eye, flank, strip)
  • 1/4 tsk Salt
  • 1/4 tsk Sort Peber
  • 1-2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Red Onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp Usaltet Smør
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 handful of fresh Spinach, chopped
  • 1/2 cup shaved Gruyere Cheese
  • 1/2 ball of Buffalo Mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup shaved Parmesan Reggiano Cheese
  • 1 Green Onion, diced for garnish
  • 2 tbsp Steak Sauce

Pizza Sauce

  • 1 cup homemade Marinara Sauce (see Recipe below)
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

Homemade Marinara Sauce

  • 1 can / 227 g Italian Pomodoro Tomatoes, peeled with liquid included
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Ekstra jomfru Oliven Olie
  • 1 tbsp Dry Oregano (or 1/2 tbsp Fresh Oregano, chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Basil, chopped
  • 1 Garlic Clove, minced
  • 1 tsk Sichuan Peppercorn, crushed
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Ground Black Pepper

Sådan gør du

  • Make the Sourdough dough at least one day in advance. Dust your countertop with a good handful of flour. Remove dough from fridge and shape into a ball and cut it into 3 pieces of approximately 230 g each. Form each one into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 60 – 90 minutes.
  • Prepare the Marinara Sauce. In a bowl, mix together canned Italian Tomatoes, Tomato Paste, Olive Oil, Oregano, Basil, Garlic, Sichuan Peppercorn, Salt and Ground Black Pepper. Refrigerate. You can make this a day in advance as well.
  • In a bowl, season the Steak with Salt and Ground Black Pepper. Set aside.
  • In a frying pan, add the Unsalted Butter on medium-high heat. Once melted, add the sliced Red Onion and Balsamic Vinegar. Stir for a few minutes until the Red Onion caramelizes. Remove and set aside.
  • Remove Marinara Sauce from the fridge. Mix in Balsamic Vinegar and Worcestershire Sauce. Set aside.
  • In a frying pan, add 1-2 tbsp of Olive Oil on high heat. Sear the Steak until rare or medium-rare. Set aside.
  • Form the Sourdough crust into a 10-inch round (or use frozen crust).
  • Spread the Sauce on the crust and top evenly with Red Onions, Buffalo Mozzarella and Gruyere Cheese.
  • Bake on a pizza stone in an oven preheated for 45-60 minutes at 450 F / 250 C. Baking time is 10-12 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, slice the Steak into thin strips or bite-size pieces.
  • Remove pizza from oven. Evenly spread Steak and Spinach on top and return to oven for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove pizza from oven. Drizzle with Steak Sauce and sprinkle with shavings of Parmesan and diced Green Onions.
