My Salt and Pepper Crispy Tofu has a wonderfully addicting flavor with amazingly crunchy texture! Many of you might have already tried this popular Chinese Tofu dish in Chinese restaurants or have ordred this as Chinese takeouts. Actually, Salt and Pepper Tofu is so easy to make at home with very simple ingredients that you can find in your kitchen. With the simple ingredients in hand, you can also be as creative as you like!

I love the special Sichuan touch of Salt and Pepper Mix that you can also find it in Broccoli-nudler med havsalt og sichuanpeber til kylling. The crispy bites of Tofu are perfect for snacking as well. For this recipe, you can add in veggies of your choice to make the dish as healthy and colorful as you please.

SALT- OG PEBERBLANDING

Til salt- og peberblandingen bruger jeg både sichuanpeberkorn og sorte peberkorn for at få den bedst mulige aroma og smag. Til saltet bør du altid bruge havsalt og ikke almindeligt salt. Hvis du kan, anbefaler jeg, at du laver salt- og peberblandingen fra bunden i stedet for at købe den i butikken. Det er virkelig hurtigt og nemt at lave derhjemme. Du vil blive så glad, hvis du har prøvet det selv.

HOW TO MAKE THIS SALT & PEPPER CRISPY TOFU

1. Prepare the Salt & Pepper mix – In a frying pan, toast Sichuan Peppercorns and Black Peppercorns on medium heat for about 2 minutes until fragrant. Then use a Mortar and Pestle to grind the Peppercorns. Transfer to another bowl. Add in the Sea Salt (don’t use regular salt!). Mix well. Salt and Pepper Mix is ready. Set aside.
2. Forbered tofu'en – Use a Kitchen Towel to press and dry the Tofu. Cut the Tofu in small pieces. Put them on a Kitchen Towel to get rid of extra liquid. In a plastic bag, add in Cornstarch, Baking Powder, and Tofu. Shake the bag for a few seconds until the Tofu are evenly coated. On a plate, add some extra Cornstarch and spread it out. Add the coated Tofu on the plate for a second coat.
3. Fry the Tofu – In a frying pan, add the Vegetable Oil, on medium-high heat. Add in the Tofu pieces one at a time making sure to keep them separated so that they don’t stick together. Fry the Tofu on both sides for 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. Fry the Tofu in batches, do not overcrowd the pan.
4. Samle retten – Leave about 1.5 tbsp of Vegetable Oil in the pan. On medium-high heat, add in Garlic, and stir for about 15 seconds until fragrant. Then add in the Onions. Stir for about 2 minutes until the Onions are a bit softened. Add in the Thai Red Chilies and Green Onions. Keep stirring. Then add in about 1 tsp of Salt and Pepper Mix. Stir well. Add in all the fried Tofu pieces. Combine well. Add in more Salt and Pepper Mix. Give it a taste to adjust to your preference.
5. Klar til servering – Transfer to serving plate. Garnish with extra Green Onions and Salt and Pepper Mix. Ready to serve!

Hainis tips

– It is important to dry the Tofu with paper towels to get rid of extra liquid. This helps for a better coating. – For an extra crunchniess, you can increase the frying time by a minute or two! But pay close attention to the color of Tofu, you don’t want it to burn!

  • 400 g Firm Tofu, cut in cubes/small pieces
  • 1/4 kop Cornstarth + extra
  • 1/2 tsk Bagepulver
  • 1 lille løg, skåret i tern
  • 4 large Garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 Forårsløg, hakket
  • 2 Red Thai Chilies, chopped
  • Vegetabilsk Olie

Salt & Pepper Mix

  • 1 Spsk. Sichuan peberkorn
  • 1 Spsk. Sorte peberkorn
  • 1 Spsk. Havsalt
